On February 8, Pixar dropped a full Lightyear trailer that is giving us a much better look at what we can expect from this Toy Story origin story. And while the focus should be on Buzz Lightyear (of course), for us it was all about Sox.

But who (or what) is Sox? And why is he our star of this Pixar trailer?

As animal lovers, we always look for the dogs and cats in a movie or a TV show, and in the trailer for Lightyear, we quickly realize that Sox is going to be the cat of the hour (or however long the movie is). But who is Sox to Buzz?

Well, technically Sox is the “personal companion robot” for Buzz. He is the one getting to travel with Buzz and keep him company.

How Sox was able to steal the show in the Lightyear trailer

But the thing that made Sox so fun and special is that he clearly has a personality. At one point, Sox makes it clear that even he thinks he has made a mistake when it comes to being at Buzz’s side as he tells him,

"That was utterly terrifying and I regret having joined you."

And yet, we already know that Sox will continue to be at Buzz’s side as long as he can.

But that moment was not the only scene stealer for Sox, as he also helped to close out the trailer by offering to help Buzz fall asleep with a wide range of sound effects. And while Buzz chooses white noise, the two say good night to each other before the robotic cat opens his mouth to give him the white noise he requested. It was weird and wonderful all in one moment.

Truly, Sox is our star and we can’t wait to see more of him and his relationship with Buzz Lightyear. But we want to know what you thought of Sox.
