While we love the National Dog Show here at Dog O’Day, spinoffs are just as fun, so the arrial of the National Dog Show Jr this year is a welcome addition.
The National Dog Show Jr will be hosted by American Ninja Warrior‘s Matt Iseman, and kind of inspired by American Ninja Warrior Jr. Olympic gymnast and Dancing with the Stars winner Laurie Hernandez will co-host as well, and kid reporter Anna Laible will report from ringside.
(Laurie’s Team USA teammate McKayla Maroney co-hosted the Discovery Plus special Puppy Summer Games earlier this year, an Olympics spoof and Puppy Bowl spinoff.)
The National Dog Show Jr will combine highlights from the show judging with features on dog science, features on junior handlers and junior agility trainers, and more about what makes dogs such great pets that we love so doggone much.
It will air on the NBC streaming service Peacock in the afternoon of Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 25.
The National Dog Show Jr brings educational kid-friendly fun to Peacock.
Last year’s National Dog Show winner was a Scottish Deerhound named Claire, and the Terrier Group and Hound Group have each won the Best in Show about six times each in the event’s 20 year history, though all seven groups (Herding, Hound, Non-Sporting, Sporting, Terrier, Toy and Working) have won at least once.
The basics of dog shows is explained here, and extra info on what the professionals wish the average viewer knew about the conformation world can be accessed as well.
We hope viewers enjoy learning about all the cool dog breeds that are out there, and enjoy time spent with their friends, family and pets this Thanksgiving.
