There are 14 groups of Bulldogs, including the variant of the Fayetteville Purple Bulldogs: Bald Knob, Decatur, Earle, Greenwood, Hampton, Springdale, Star City, St Joseph, Strong, Tuckerman, Quitman, Waldron, and White Hall.
Possibly inspired by the Red Wolves of Arkansas State University, Wolves and variants include Lincoln, the Prescott Curley Wolves (why is a wolf’s fur curling, especially with that extra E?), and the Timberwolves of Cedar Ridge and Oden.
Three groups of Greyhounds run at Newport, Salem and Sloan-Hendrix.
In the realm of “creativity with canine mascots that more schools really ought to employ,” there are also the Alma Airedales, Fayetteville Haas Hall Mastiffs, Morrilton Devil Dogs and Van Buren Pointers
No longer in existence are Cotton Plant, who was known as the Bulldogs, or Gillett, which was home to the Wolves.
Good luck to all these schools’ sports teams, and stay safe!
