What Arkansas high school feline mascots are out there?

Dog O’Day dug into the details to find out. As with most of our animal mascot research, Mascot DB was a primary source, and we apawlogize if we left your school out by mistake or misspelled it.

Arkansas high school sports are governed by the Arkansas Activities Association, which sanctions championships in baseball, basketball (boys and girls), bowling (boys and girls), cheer, cross country (boys and girls), football, golf (boys and girls), soccer (boys and girls), softball, swimming and diving (boys and girls), tennis (boys and girls), track and field (boys and girls), volleyball and wrestling.

The largest schools are put in Class 7A, with the smallest in 1A, and somewhat unusually, districts are listed before the class designation.

What Arkansas high school feline mascots are out there?

Unsurprisingly, Tigers are the most common Arkansas high school feline mascots. 16 schools use this name, at Acorn, Armorel, Bemtonville, Brinkley, Charleston, Green Forest, Lead Hill, Marshfield, Maynard, Mountain View, Pangburn, Prairie Grove, Taylor, Timbo, Valley Springs, and  West Fork.

Given the state’s prominence within the Ozark Mountains, Panthers are also very common, with 14 prowling at .Ashdown, Bigelow, Bergman, Benton, Cabot, Clarksville, Fouke, Greenbrier, Heber Springs, Hot Springs Christian, Siloam Springs, Magnolia, Malvern Magnet Cove, Norfolk, and Yellville-Summit.

There are 11 Lions roaming in Clarendon, England, Gravette, Hamburg, Horatio, Jessieville, Little Rock Central, Manila, Mount Ida, Searcy, along with the McClellan Crimson Lions.

10 sets of Wildcats rule the halls of El Dorado, Hector, Rison, Saint Joe, Searcy Harding Academy, Springdale Har-Ber, Trumann, Umpire, and Watson Chapel, and there are also the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats.

Seven schools – Berryville, Corning, Dumas, Flippin, Hope, Marshall, and Walnut Ridge – are known as the Bobcats.

Helena-West Helena Central, Izard County, Lafayette County and Rector are the Cougars, while Little Rock LISA, Little Rock LISA North and McCrory are the Jaguars and Alpena, De Queen and Malvern are all Leopards. Finally, there are the Conway Wampus Cats, though we honestly have no clue what a “wampus cat” is.

Good luck to all these schools’ sports teams this school year, and stay safe.
