The 2021 Autotrader 10 Best Cars for Dog Lovers list is out now on the car-buying resouce’s website, just in time for National Dog Day, and we think their picks are very solid.
Unsurprisingly, there are a mix of minivans, SUVs and crossovers in the mix, as most of the time dogs going on road trips tend to be medium-sized at least, and so take up about the same amount of space as small children.
Furthermore, if several dog owners are traveling together (like when camping or going to a flyball tournament, for example), having the extra space for people, dogs and gear is essential.
Autotrader didn’t rank their favorites on this list numerically, but did list specific features that they thought worked well for dog lovers with each vehicle.

The minivans feature removable seating to help with size issues, while the Tesla features a climate-controlled Dog Mode that so that our pups are safe on short errands when left in the car. Furthermore, Autotrader has teamed up with Adopt-A-Pet.com to create a website called Dogtrader, which is designed to get homeless dogs out of shelters and into their forever homes, and also find lost dogs and rehome dogs safely when their living situations don’t quite work out.
To celebrate National Dog Day and the launch of Dogtrader, they are releasing a 2022 calendar filled with adoptable pets, with the cover models being Olympic freestyle skier and animal rescue advocate Gus Kenworthy and his Korean Jindo mix Birdie.
Additionally, some of the other pets featured in the calendar include rescued pet superstars like the Goldenwoofs, Rambo the Puppy and WillieCute, all from Dogstagram.
