What Alaska high school feline mascots are out there across the great northern landscapes?

While not quite as much variety in feline mascots as when it comes to birds or animals in general, Alaska high school sports feature a lot of cats.

Alaska high school sports are governed by the Alaska School Activities Association, which sanctions championships in baseball, basketball, bowling, cheer, cross country, esports, flag football, football, gymnastics, hockey, shooting, skiing, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball and wrestling, plus various fine arts disciplines including music and drama.

As almost always with our tracking of animal mascots across the US, our research came from Mascot DB, and we apawlogize if we misspelled your favorite school or left them out.

What Alaska high school feline mascots are out there?

There isn’t that many feline mascots in the state, though that makes sense as there aren’t that many high schools compared to the land area.

There are eight sets of Lynx in the state, representing Anchorage Dimond, Golovin Olsen, Kiana, Manokotak, Noatak Napaaqtugmiut, Nenona, Old Harbor and Point Alsworth Tanalian. Lynx are not often used when it comes to feline mascots, with a notable exception in the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx.

There are also four groups of Panthers, roaming at Anchorage Pacific Northern, Craig, Skagway and Soldotna Skyview.

Next are the Cougars, from Anchorage Service, Eek and Fritz Creek Voznesensca, respectively.

There are two groups of Lions, Anchorage Christian and Delta Junction Whitestone.

And finally to round out the feline contingent, there are the Kattag Wildcats. It’s a bit unusual for this (rather generic) team nickname to only be used by one school.
