With the summer heat upon us, you might be looking for cooler dog treats for your pup to enjoy. And that’s where these frozen goodies come in to play.

Thanks to this recipe from Urban Bliss Life, we can treat our pups right with frozen dog treats that are satisfying and refreshing (for them). And after putting a batch of these treats together, we can confirm that they really are easy to make as well.

We love that this frozen treat is basically three ingredients and we know every one of the ingredients so we don’t have to worry about what our pup is eating. That being said, we did get veterinarian approval before putting this together, because every dog is different, and when making treats, we want to make sure we aren’t doing any harm. So we recommend talking to your vet, especially if your pup is sensitive to certain foods and treats.

Luckily, watermelon and blueberries are okay for our fur children, especially when used in moderation. (Moderation is key in most things, but especially when feeding fruits to our pups.)

How to make frozen dog treats with blueberry and watermelon

So what do you need and how do you make these frozen dog treats? It’s easy:

What you need:

  • A silicone mold in fun shapes (there are molds for dogs, including paws and pups like this Dachshund mold)
  • 2 cups of seedless watermelon chopped up into cubes
  • 1/4 cup of blueberries (whole or half blueberries depending on the size of your pup)
  • 1 cup of plain yogurt (Make sure there is no xylitol in the yogurt)

What to do:

In a blender, puree the watermelon (I didn’t puree it all the way, so there were still some chunks to the watermelon). Spoon a small amount of yogurt into your silicone molds, making sure it is just enough to cover the bottom of the mold. Place one or two of your blueberries in each mold. Top with your watermelon puree. Freeze your treat for at least two hours and then pop them out and let your pup enjoy.

And remember, moderation is key, so we recommend only one or two of these frozen dog treats per day. Of course, if you are making tiny treats and have a larger pup, they may be able to handle three or four. Our staff pup was allowed up to four per day, and she was definitely happy with this, although she did have a habit of spitting out blueberries and playing with them before actually eating them.

What do you think dog lovers? Are you going to give this frozen treat a try? Do you have a frozen treat that you make for your pup?
