On May 8, Barack Obama took to Instagram in order to share a touching tribute to Bo Obama following the beloved pup’s death after a decade with his family.
In the Instagram post, the former President talked about Bo’s service to his family and what it was like for the pup to be in the White House and beyond. From enjoying time in the pool to putting up with all the drama and chaos of living in the White House, Bo enjoyed a life that was both hectic and loving.
While we are saddened by the news of Bo’s passing, it is clear that this is one pup who lived an amazing and even adventurous life. Whether he was running at President Obama’s side at the White House (which is one of the images the president shared in his tribute post) or spending time with his family, it is clear that he lived his best life.
Barack Obama pays tribute to beloved family pup, Bo, who passed away on May 8
Of course, President Obama was not alone in paying tribute to Bo, as Michelle Obama also posted about the pup’s passing. It seems that Bo had been dealing with a cancer battle and it was the family’s decision to stop their pup’s suffering.
In the former First Lady’s Instagram post, she shared,
"his afternoon was a difficult one for our family. We said goodbye to our best friend—our dog, Bo—after a battle with cancer. On the campaign trail in 2008, we promised our daughters that we would get a puppy after the election. At the time, Bo was supposed to be a companion for the girls. We had no idea how much he would mean to all of us."
As a family, it is clear that the Obamas will miss Bo desperately. And we understand that.
It is hard to say goodbye to a beloved member of the family, especially a dog who has been there through all of the ups and downs. That being said, we are happy to know that in the end the family was all together and had a chance to spend plenty of quality time with Bo before they said goodbye.
While we are sad to see this news from the Obama family, we also appreciate the tributes to Bo from his human parents. And we can only hope that the family and Sunny are able to heal following this loss.
