Dog Moms Day 2021 celebrated by lots of new pet pawrents
Did you know that Dog Moms Day was a thing?
Apparently it’s the day before Mother’s Day, and to celebrate, the folks at Rover surveyed a bunch of pet pawrents to see how they have adjusted during the pandemic.
About 500 women were part of this survey, and 57 percent of them have adopted a new dog to the family since March 2020, and 54 percent of respondents plan on celebrating Dog Moms Day 2021 for the first time.
Because of the working from home, quarantining, lockdowns and stay-at-home orders (severity and duration depending on where you live), seven in 10 respondents say they feel more bonded with their pupper, with slightly more (71 percent) saying their immediate family (which includes pets) has gotten closer as well.
Pawrenting is nerve-wracking, though – 48 percent of women said their worries about their dogs’ health and well-being had increased as well.
Dog Moms Day 2021 reveals from interesting facts about pawrenting during a pandemic.
40 percent of survey respondents said they wanted to spend Mother’s Day 2021 with their pet more than anything else, which isn’t surprising, as nearly 80 percent of dog owners see themselves as dog moms who take their role very seriously, with over three-quarters calling their pupper a “child,” “fur baby,” or some similar term of endearment.
Additionally, Mother’s Day can be a hard time for many if they deal with infertility issues, or a strained or nonexistent relationship with their own mother or children. So the comfort and love from a pet, especially the canine no-holds-barred I-love-you attitude of Doug from Up, could very understandably be very appealing.
Almost half of all dog moms said that they have adopted a dog as pawrenting practice before having a human child with a romantic partner, and nearly a third of them said they’d gotten presents from or for their dog for Dog Moms Day or Mother’s Day, and another third said they would love that idea, though it hadn’t occurred to them before.
And just in case they were looking for a human partner, there are quite a few doggycentric dating options out there, though dudes should note that if they have cats in their profile picture, they may be seen as less attractive.
Rover is a dog-walking and dogsitting service available across the country; for more information, see their website for more details. Dog Moms Day 2021 is Saturday, May 8, the day before Mother’s Day 2021.
