Best Friends concert features Emmylou Harris, Amanda Seyfried and more
The Best Friends concert coming up at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Thursday, May 6 will bring together two of our favorite things here at Dog O’Day: dogs (and pets generally) and music.
Officially called “Songs to Save Them All,” country legend Emmylou Harris will headline the performers, who also include Laura Jean Anderson, Victoria Anthony, Tim Atlas, Aunty Social, Canyon City, Dylan Dunlap, Geographer, Baker Grace, Brandon Jenner, The Joy Formidable, Munn, Davis John Patton, Pryor and Lee, Joshua Radin, Sammy Rae, Chappell Roan, SYML, Two Feet, WILD, Wild Rivers, WOLF, and Wrabel.
Though most of the performers indie artists based in the Los Angeles area, there are also alterative rock, pop and heavy metal artists, with several countries represented, as WOLF is a Swedish band and The Joy Formidable come from Wales.
Additionally, actresses Mayim Bialik (Blossom, The Big Bang Theory, Call Me Kat), Kat Dennings (Thor, 2 Broke Girls, WandaVision), Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls, Mamma Mia, The Art of Racing in the Rain), and Cecily Strong (Saturday Night Live) will make appearances throughout the show.
Actors Josh Gad (Frozen, Murder on the Orient Express), Kevin Nealon (Saturday Night Live), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) and Dennis Quaid (A Dog’s Journey, Any Given Sunday, The Rookie) are also expected to be part of the show, as is novelist W Bruce Cameron and various social media influencers and other celebrities.
The Best Friends concert, “Songs to Save Them All,” will be Thursday, May 6.
“Music is a universal language and brings so much joy to the world,” said Julie Castle, Best Friends Animal Society chief executive officer said in a press release. “This concert will celebrate how music and our love of animals unite us and show how we can all come together to support each other, our communities and homeless pets.”
The Best Friends concert will be streamed on Facebook, Twitch and YouTube, as well as at BestFriends.org/concert and the fundraising app Tiltify, where viewers can donate to the cause of animal rescue if they’re able and willing.
Best Friends’ goal is to make animal shelters around the country no-kill by 2025, and will celebrate their efforts in Los Angeles last year, achieving a 90.49 percent save rate in 2020.
As part of their operations, they have a cool roadhouse that could be worth traveling to once the pandemic ends, and have been partnering with NASCAR driver Alex Bowman this season.
Emmylou Harris has made 26 studio albums since beginning her career in 1969, earning 14 Grammys, three CMA Awards and two ACM Awards in that time, in addition to cofounding the Bonaparte’s Retreat animal shelter in Nashville.
