When it comes to fun family movies, we love a good animated adventure. And in Doug the Pug‘s first movie role, The Mitchells vs. the Machines is family fun done right.

On a family road trip to get Katie Mitchell to her first year in film school, we watch as the Mitchells and their family dog explore the country and find themselves dealing with technology gone rogue. Basically, what started out as a family trying to reconnect becomes an epic adventure in saving the day.

Sure, we totally tuned in so we could see Monchi, as “voiced” by Doug the Pug, but once we got into the movie, we were hooked. Not only was it fun and funny, but the family dynamics were actually quite fascinating to explore. So many of us can relate to the drama of growing up and trying to have a life away from our parents. But once the world seems to be under attack by the machines, everything changes.

We are talking about robots crashing lading from the sky, Monchi refusing to listen to anyone and getting captured by the robots, and of course a lot of high flying hijinks. Basically, it was ridiculousness done right.

As much as this movie is about robots and technology overthrowing the people who created them, it is also about family and remembering what is really important. And yes, there was plenty of humor to be had once the internet was turned off on a global scale, but it was also a reminder that we put way too much emphasis on technology and not on the people who really matter.

While Doug the Pug drew us in, it was the story that won us over. The Mitchells vs. the Machines was more than just a fun watch, it was a lesson in remembering that family and people are more important than devices.
