If you’ve ever watched Legally Blonde or Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, you’ve seen Moonie in action. He played THE Bruiser Woods, Elle Woods’ (played by Reese Witherspoon) dog in both movies, and while he may have passed away in 2016, he’s still a legend.
But possibly one of the most shocking facts about Moonie’s life is who he used to share a house with. Moonie used to live with none other than Gidget, the Chihuahua most famous for her role as Nacho in the Taco Bell commercials. Talk about a star-studded house! They even starred in Legally Blonde 2 together, with Gidget playing Bruiser’s mom. This makes a small moment from the first move even funnier, as Elle notes while watching TV that Bruiser has a crush on Nacho.

Moonie was first adopted as a puppy by Studio Animal Services trainer, Sue Chipperton. Sue had trained Gidget and when the part for Legally Blonde came up, she submitted Moonie for the role.
Gidget was busy with Taco Bell stardom so she wouldn’t be available for the shoot.
Moonie and Gidget were both in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde as Bruiser Woods and his mom.
The rest, as they say, was history! Moonie became Bruiser, Elle Woods’ canine friend that she takes everywhere from the salon to the courtroom. He reprised his role at age 5 for the sequel.
After his Legally Blonde fame, Moonie went onto star in music videos (even one with Cher), TV commercials, and was in several TV shows including Three Sisters and Providence.
But the Legally Blonde sequel wasn’t the last time he saw Reese Witherspoon. He was also there when she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010. Moonie then retired from acting in 2014 at the age of 15.
On March 10, 2016, the sad news broke via Sue Chipperton on Instagram that Moonie had passed away in LA at the age of 18. Reese Witherspoon also posted a tribute to Moonie on her Facebook page.
With a sad heart, I have to let all the #LegallyBlonde fans know that Bruiser Woods (also known as Moonie) passed away…
