While Doug the Pug is a social media wonderdog, and as of this week an actor, he’s also a bit of a fashionista and movie fan, specifically the 2001 romcom Legally Blonde.
He recently cosplayed as Reese Witherspoon’s (Pleasantville, Sweet Home Alabama, The Morning Show) Elle Woods for a photoshoot, which he posted onto his Instagram (@ItsDougThePug).
The look was complete with a flowing blonde wig, yellow beret and flower-printed dress, and a pink purse with a stuffie of Bruiser, Elle’s ever-present Chihuahua.
There was also a second picture in the post, featuring Doug as Elle in her dorm room in California, studying for the LSAT with her sorority sisters and Bruiser helping out, along with some light pink nail polish, and various makeup brushes and utensils. He also tagged Witherspoon, a dog mom herself, in the second post for good measure.

“Harvard? What, like it’s hard?” he captioned the post, to which fans kept adding memorable quotes from the film.
The movie also stars Luke Wilson (Stargirl, My Dog Skip, Zombieland: Double Tap), Victor Garber (1999 Annie, Legends of Tomorrow, Alias), Selma Blair (H-llboy, Anger Management), Jennifer Coolidge (A Cinderella Story, Best in Show, American Pie), Ali Larter (Drive Me Crazy, Varsity Blues, Heroes) and Linda Cardellini (2002 Scooby-Doo, Avengers: Age of Ultron), in addition to Moonie the Chihuahua as Bruiser.
Witherspoon, Wilson, Coolidge and Moonie returned for the 2003 sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde, which sees Elle and Emmett working in Washington, DC, attempting to abolish live animal testing by cosmetic companies. Newcomers to the cast included Sally Field, Regina King, and an Octavia Spencer cameo.
There is also a 2008 spinoff movie, Legally Blondes, that was made for TV (either ABC Family or Disney Channel), that follows Elle’s British cousins and their pets, Bruiser’s nephews, and a Broadway musical based on the original film. A third installment, written in part by Mindy Kaling, is scheduled for release in May 2022.
While we love the movie, this cosplay is a bit off-putting, somehow, as multiple Dog O’Day staff members were mildly alarmed by the canine’s luscious locks, which wouldn’t look out of place on a human (or on a long-snouted doggo on Pooch Perfect), but are somewhat terrifying on a smash-faced breed.
Doug’s Hollywood debut will come on Friday, April 30, with the release of The Mitchells Versus the Machines, a Netflix exclusive from the creators of The LEGO Movie. Doug voices the family pupper Mochi as a road-tripping family finds themselves unexpectedly battling a robot apocalypse.
