Lisa Vanderpump has been known as a TV personality for much of the past decade, and she’s currently one of the judges on the ABC Rebel Wilson-hosted dog grooming show Pooch Perfect.
She recently spoke with People Magazine about what her previous television work and pet ownership experience has led into her role with the series.
In the dog world, Vanderpump is known for her Vanderpump Dogs charity foundation, which has sent several dogs over the years to the Puppy Bowl, and she was also a judge on the Facebook Watch competition series World’s Most Amazing Dog in 2019.
Elsewhere within the entertainment industry, Lisa Vanderpump was part of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast for nine seasons before getting a spinoff show titled Vanderpump Rules, which began in 2014 and has currently run for six seasons.
Outside of the world of reality TV, Lisa Vanderpump and her husband Ken Todd own more than 30 restaurants scattered across London and Los Angeles, and she appeared in guest roles across various British TV programs and movies from the early 1970s to the 1990s.
Lisa Vanderpump shares why she’s a good fit on Pooch Perfect.
“ came to me and they said, ‘Would you like to be involved in judging a dog show?’ and I thought about it for at least five seconds and then I said, ‘Absolutely!'” Vanderpump told People.
She described it as a welcome break from her dog rescue efforts, enjoying the low-key, feel-good aspect of the series, which has much the same vibe as The Great British Baking Show.
“There are so few shows that you can actually watch together as a family that have a feel-good factor,” Vanderpump told People. “I think we’ve lost a little bit of that because a lot of people are watching things on tablets and individual things, or shows that are just for the grown-ups.”
Like he did on World’s Most Amazing Dogs, Vanderpump’s Pomeranian Puffy has also made cameo appearances, though he seems just as unimpressed to be in the spotlight here as he did then.
Also serving as judges on the series are veterinarian and Purina ambassador Dr. Callie Harris and celebrity dog groomer Jorge Bendersky.
Competitors consist of a groomer and their assistant, with teams including a mother-son pair, cousins, engaged and dating couples and best friends, in addition to traditional boss/employee workplace relationships.
New episodes of Pooch Perfect air weekly on ABC on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET, with next-day streaming if you had a premium Hulu subscription.
