The Pack season 1 episode 3 review: Costa Rica Part 1
By Adam Vosding
The Pack season 1 episode 3 goes to Costa Rica, and Holland the Pup has all the details.
Hello everyone, it’s Holland the Pup here again to share my thoughts about episode 3 of Amazon’s The Pack. In this episode all the doggos and their human companions took a three hour plane ride from Mexico City to Costa Rica. I’ve never been to Costa Rica before, but it looks really beautiful. There are even little monkeys that live in the trees that I think would be fun to play with. At the beginning of the episode, one of the human competitors, Josh, took some time to talk about how he feels the spirit of his late mother lives within his dog, Snow. I love how dogs can help humans get through tough times in life.
For the pack challenges, the green pack had to cross over this crazy suspended pedestrian bridge that was barely wider than my little body. I’m actually pretty good at at walking along narrow things so I think I would have done pretty good at this challenge. Dixie, the Bluetick Coonhound, did a paw-some job following his dad across the narrow bridge and really made me proud. Meanwhile, the blue pack had to repel down a waterfall and that looked really intense. The human and doggo partners wore a harness together for safety. One of my favorite dogs, Lucy, looked a little nervous going down but her mother did a good job getting them down. The coolest part is that all the doggos in this challenge wore cute little doggy boots to keep their paw pads safe from any sharp rocks.
After finishing their separate pack challenges all the teams had to go white water rafting down to the finish line. This part of the challenge was fun to watch because all the dogs pretty much just got to sit back and enjoy the ride as their human parents did all the work paddling and steering the rafts. The green pack made it to the finish line first and were safe from the elimination challenge and because the green pack won the challenge they all got to go on a celebratory sunset cruise where Lindsey Vonn shared a story about how her dog Lucy is originally from Italy and has also been to Korea when Lindsey competed in the 2018 Olympics. I think that is so cool. My dad, Traveling Food Dude, went to Russia in 2014 for the Olympics as a spectator and always tells me he wants to take me to Holland one day and I would love that since that’s the place I’m named after and I have family there.
For the elimination challenge the blue pack had to compete against each other in a paddle board competition. This took some serious balance from both the humans and the doggos. Allister did great and finished first and Bozley was doing really good until the end when she took off swimming but eventually made it back onto the paddle board. I really want to try paddle boarding or surfing one day, it looks like so much fun. Snow ended up finishing last and just as everyone was about to say goodbye Lindsey said that it would be Daniel and Allister that would have to go home because Daniel had taken Allister out of his dog carrier and seatbelt while in a taxi and that was against the safety rules.
I feel so bad for Daniel because I can tell he is an awesome doggo dad and I want him to know that we still support and love him and that he needs to be very proud for all that he has done for Allister. That ending was really tough to swallow but now it’s time for me to watch episode 4. Until then, enjoy the ride.
