The cutest dog breeds according to science
All good are good dogs, and all good dogs are cute. But which are the cutest dog breeds of them all?
Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the old saying goes, so while the Dog O’Day staff doesn’t necessarily agree with this list, it’s what the British pet insurance company MoneyBeach.co.uk.
They applied a theory called the Golden Ratio to 100 canines to determine the cutest dog breeds, which is a pretty nifty bit of dog science, in our opinion. (This is where the Golden Ratio pack @TheGoldenRatio4 got their name from.)
We learned of this survey through a Fox News report, finding it very interesting, though not altogether correct.
What are the cutest dog breeds?
No. 10 – Golden Retriever
They adhered to the Golden Ratio at 62.52 percent, and are stars of screen, in addition to being fantastic pets.
No. 9 – St Bernard
They adhered to the Golden Ratio at 62.94 percent, and are very famous thanks to Beethoven from the 1990s movie series.
No. 8 – Rottweiler
They adhered to the Golden Ratio at 65.35 percent, and it’s hard to argue with their versatility as guard dogs with a gentle side, as our pal Kuno the Servicerottie can show.
No. 7 – Jack Russell Terrier
They adhered to the Golden Ratio at 63.86 percent, and thanks to Wishbone (and Bark-Andre Furry and Deke), JRTs are some of our favorites.
No. 6 – Samoyed
They adhered to the Golden Ratio at 64.33 percent, and these floofy clouds capture our hearts, thanks to social media influencers like Coconut Rice Bear and MayaPolarBear.
No. 5 – Basset Hound
They adhered to the Golden Ratio at 64.43 percent, and it’s hard not to love those floppy ears and soulful bark.
No. 4 – Labrador Retriever
They adhered to the Golden Ratio at 64.67 percent, and are pretty much the perfect dog, as they’ve been No. 1 in the AKC rankings for close to thirty years. But it’s a little surprising to see a cutest dog breeds list and not see Labs at the top.
No. 3 – Wire Fox Terrier
They adhered to the Golden Ratio at 65.53 percent, which explains why they often do well in the conformation ring. Other than that, we are not very well-versed when it comes to this breed.
No. 2 – Irish Water Spaniel
They adhered to the Golden Ratio at 66.26 percent, which must meant they are pretty – but we don’t know much about this breed, either.
No. 1 – Dalmatian
They adhered to the Golden Ratio at 67.03 percent, which explains why they’re so well-loved (and look good on screen), not even taking into account their loyal personalities and snazzy spotted coats.
