Here’s how to find the best pet insurance company for your pup.

Many pet owners don’t know this, I didn’t find out until recently, but pet insurance is real, and why would it not be? We want to protect our pets! (And besides, they’re often very expensive to take care of.)

Whether you are a new dog owner or have several four-legged pals and are just now learning about pet insurance (and are overpaying so much out of pocket), you’ve come to the right place! Read on for more details.

The website Canine Journal shared some great tips on selecting the best pet insurance company to go with based on your dog’s needs. The main reason to get insurance, is so that your puppy is always secured.

The source shares that pet owners may rush to the pet hospital with an injured dog. If you know anything about pets and vets, is that the bills run high. One emergency can end up being $600, if you’re lucky!

And, of course, there’s no price we wouldn’t pay to help out our pet, but what if we don’t have the money or can’t afford to at that time? This is why pet insurance is so helpful.

Finding the best pet insurance

Some pet insurances the source recommends, include Healthy Paws Pet Insurance, Pets Best, and Petplan. Other major names to know and look into include Embrace, Figo, and Trupanion, and the ASPCA also has a plan of their own available.  HERE they also share a widget to help you get quotes from multiple companies. I loved this tool as it really gives you perfect examples.

Some of the big-name companies you’ve likely heard of that offer pet insurance coverage include GEICO, Farmers, State Farm and Nationwide, while Aflac recently became a minority owner in Trupanion.

According to Money.com, cats are typically cheaper to insure than dogs are, likely because they tend to take care of themselves and stay around the house, rather than depending on us people all the time.

Be sure to visit Canine Journal, as well, where they break down coverage details, deductible levels, customer reviews (a huge plus), and rank the pet insurance companies they believe are the best. Bonus: Canine Journal also shares coupon codes for pet owners to take advantage of!

Here’s how they rank:

  1. Healthy Paws
  2. PetsBest
  3. Figo
