When it comes to planning a road trip, vacation, or even where we may want to live, it is always important to take into account our pets. And with the help of Joy Organics, we now know some states where it really does feel like our pets are as much of a priority as we are.

With the help of data acquired across a wide variety of sources including Petfinder.com, Twitter, BIXBI, and more, Joy Organics was able to put together all information we could need on which states are pet friendly for not only visiting, but even those of us who want to maybe find a new place to live.

With the way they broke things down, we know that Wyoming actually has the most pet owners, which is fascinating (and not something we would have guessed), while California is apparently the place to be for pet-friendly dining. And that’s not the only fascinating information they were able to pull together, as they also revealed that in Kentucky, pet owners on average spend a whopping $129 per order on their pets.

So what else did Joy Organics learn? And which states are the best for visiting with our furry friends?

Joy Organics gives us the low-down on which states are pet friendly

  • South Carolina, Florida, and Texas are the most pet friendly based on the average amount that owners spent on their pets, how many pet owners there actually are, how often owners post their pets to social media, where the most pet-friendly eateries are, and even where the most pet shelters are located.
  • Based on the same factors, the least pet friendly states are actually Alaska, Iowa, and South Dakota.
  • The best states for enjoying a meal with your pet are actually California, South Carolina, and Oregon.
  • The worst states for dining with your furry friend are Alaska, Iowa, and West Virginia. (Considering Alaska and Iowa were on the least friendly list, we are actually not surprised to see them making another appearance here.)
  • In New York, Kentucky, and Georgia, pet owners typically spend the most money on their pets.
  • In Iowa (not surprised), Idaho, and South Dakota, pet owners typically spend the least money with an average spend of just $30 per order.

When it comes to taking this information and translating it into places to visit with your pet, it looks like South Carolina, Texas, Florida, California, and Oregon are at the very top of the list.

Obviously, there are all kinds of factors that can impact these facts. And while states like Iowa and Alaska might not be at the top of the list for pet friendly locations, that doesn’t mean pets and their owners are not welcomed with open arms.
