Puppy Bowl 17: Grounds and Hounds Coffee named official fuel of event
Puppy Bowl 17 will be powered by Grounds and Hounds Coffee.
Puppy Bowl 17 (technically Puppy Bowl XVII), also known as the 2021 Puppy Bowl, is the biggest sporting event of the pet TV calendar as a football parody, and it now has an official beverage sponsor, as the official fuel of the event will now be provided by Grounds and Hounds Coffee.
Grounds and Hounds was founded around 2012 after founder Jordan Karcher discovered a liver-spotted Dalmatian in Santa Monica, California, that he adopted and named Molly. This led to a organic specialty coffee business that gets its beans from a variety of primarily South American countries, and donates 20 percent of all purchases to dog rescues.
Since teaming up with Animal Planet in 2018 for Puppy Bowl 15, Grounds and Hounds has offered a Puppy Bowl blend, a 12-ounce medium-dark roast from Guatemala and Papua New Guinea that’s paired with a Team Ruff (orange) or Team Fluff (blue) bandanna for $14.99. The Puppy Bowl blend is available in both ground or whole bean options, depending on customer preference.
This year the collaboration is expanding for Puppy Bowl 17 with the Guard Your Yard mug, a 14-ounce ceramic coffee mug that features an awesome logo with two football dogs facing off prior to a snap while wearing team-appropriate T-shirts and vintage (1920s style) helmets. This mug is also priced at $14.99, and the helmets even have ear flaps! This mug is dishwasher-friendly, which is also a huge plus for those days when there’s a ton to do and not enough time to get tasks done.
There is also the Guard Your Yard glass, which is a 12-ounce tapered glass with the same terrific logo. It’s more suitable for beer (that will be kept out of doggo’s reach) or soda, since those would pair better with the actual Super Bowl later in the day. This is only available until the end of January, so better pounce while you can.
There is also a Guard Your Yard sticker for $4.99, perfect for decorating your laptop, car or whatever else you can think of to make a little more festive.
Because of the pandemic, the puppies came from only nine states (most years there are around 20 states and several other countries participating), but all animals involved in the production have found their forever homes since taping in October.
In last year’s contest, Team Fluff won on a last-second touchdown run as time expired by the German Shepherd/Samoyed mix Rocky Road, giving them the title after a 63-59 triumph. In the preceding Dog Bowl III for adult and senior dogs, that contest also went down to the wire as the Goldies topped the Oldies 31-28.
Puppy Bowl 17 will air on Sunday, February 7 at 2 p.m. ET on Animal Planet, and also be streaming live on the Discovery Plus streaming service.
