Miley Cyrus’ pit bull has gone OTRB.

Miley Cyrus’ pit bull Mary Jane has gone Over the Rainbow Bridge.

This news was earlier reported by People Magazine, after Cyrus revealed the news on her Instagram story on Thursday night, January 7.

“Anyone who knows me, and it doesn’t have to be well, is aware that my best friend in the world is a rescued pit bull mix named Mary Jane,” Cyrus wrote. Mary Jane was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago, and so it came time that it was best to let her go on across the Rainbow Bridge.

“I thanked her repeatedly as she took her last breath for who she was and what she has been to me,” Cyrus continued. It was something more than a friend or a family member. Something so different. You can’t define it.”

Losing a pet is incredibly difficult, particularly if they’ve been a part of your life for a decade. Our sympathies go out to Miley, and we hope that the other dogs in her pack, which includes the newly-rescued Bulldog named Daisy, are able to comfort her in this rough patch.

To commemorate Mary Jane’s memory, Cyrus later posted on her Instagram a video of pictures through the years, accompanied by a song where the dog was a character.

Miley Cyrus is the daughter of country music legend/actor Billy Ray Cyrus, and followed in his bootsteps in both singing and acting, skyrocketing to stardom in the lead role of Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel sitcom Hannah Montana, later starring in the animated dog movie Bolt and the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ novel The Last Song.

She has released seven studio albums to date: Meet Miley Cyrus (2007), Breakout (2008), Can’t Be Tamed (2010), Bangerz (2013), Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz (2015), Younger Now (2017) and Plastic Hearts (2020), in addition to two albums recorded in character as Hannah.

From 2018-2020, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, brother of MCU favorite Chris known for his roles in The Last Song and The Hunger Games, were married after a previous engagement was broken off, and this is just some of the rocky places Mary Jane helped Cyrus get through.

We wish Miley Cyrus and her family the best of luck in the future.
