How to make an eggnog that is safe for your dog

We all know that the holidays mean eggnog, but did you know that you’re pup can indulge in this rich treat too? While you may not be able to pour them a bowl of eggnog right from the store, that doesn’t mean you can’t make them their own nog. And thanks to the fine people over at Chewy, we actually have the perfect recipe to make it for your pup.

With the debate over whether or not dogs can eat eggs is one that even we have covered, the last thing we want to do is add raw eggs to the mix. So finding this no-egg recipe for a dog-friendly eggnog is definitely the highlight of our holiday.

Considering this recipe requires five ingredients and three tools, this is the kind of culinary creation that is easy to make and hopefully dog approved.

What you need to make your dog eggnog

While it might be hard to consider this a true eggnog without the egg, we think this recipe still delivers the creamy goodness of one of our favorite holiday beverages. And with this recipe, you may just plan for a holiday dog party with eggnog as the star for years to come.

What you need:

  • A blender
  • A measuring cup
  • A dog bowl
  • Half of a banana (you’ll want to use the smallest banana possible for this)
  • 1 cup of almond milk that is unsweetened
  • 4 Medjool dates that have been pitted and then chopped
  • Half a cup of coconut milk
  • A pinch of cinnamon

To make your dog-friendly eggnog, you’ll take the banana, almond milk, dates, and coconut and add it to the blender. From there, you’ll mix until everything is blended together into a smooth and creamy liquid. You’ll then mix in the pinch of cinnamon. From there, pour it into a bowl and let your pup enjoy their own take on the holiday beverage.

As a reminder, please stick to the ingredients in this recipe, as these are all dog approved. And while many human versions of this holiday favorite include nutmeg, NEVER include nutmeg in anything you are giving to your dog as it is actually toxic to them.

And maybe we can come up with a better name for this nog while we are letting our dogs give this drink a sip. So, what do we think of DogNog?
