2020 Week 8 was almost normal by college football standards.

2020 Week 8 was almost normal by college football standards. The Big Ten and Mountain West Conferences began their seasons, which means a significantly larger portion of canine schools and canine-adjacent-with-vet-med-programs took the field.

As always, football dogs among the dogs of Instagram were wearing their team-specific bandannas, T-shirts, collars and jerseys while watching from the backyard, kitchen or living room couch.

Now, onto the 2020 Week 8 scores…

2020 Week 8 began for our purposes on Thursday, October 22, in the Sun Belt Conference, as the Arkansas State Red Wolves were stomped by the Appalachian State Mountaineers 45-17, falling to 3-3, 1-2 for the year.

On Saturday, October 24, Smokey the Coonhound’s Tennessee Volunteers hosted the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide on CBS, and Bama rolled to a 48-17 triumph. Tennessee is now 2-3.

In the ACC, the No. 23 North Carolina State Wolfpack were derailed by the No. 14 North Carolina Tar Heels 48-21, NC State is now 4-2 on the season.

In the Mountain West, the Boise State Broncos (who have a tee-retrieval dog named Kohl) topped the Utah State Aggies 42-13 on a windy night at Albertsons Stadium.

The Nevada Wolf Pack outlasted the Wyoming Cowboys 27-24 in overtime in Reno.

The Fresno State Bulldogs fell to the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors 34-19 in their opener.

To end MWC updates, the New Mexico Lobos’ game at the Colorado State Rams was canceled, presumably due to COVID concerns.

In Conference USA, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs lost a hard-fought contest with the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, as UTSA defended the Alamodome with the 27-26 victory. Louisiana Tech is now 3-3, 2-2 this year.

Onto how the vet schools fared in 2020 Week 8….

On Saturday, the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes blasted the Nebraska Cornhuskers 52-17 in the morning Fox matchup.

In the night ABC game, the No. 21 Minnesota Golden Gophers hosted the No. 18 Michigan Wolverines, and Minnesota lost 49-24, though they were without their starting kicker, punter and kickoff specialist.

Earlier in the day, the Michigan State Spartans dropped their home opener against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 38-27.

Also, the Purdue Boilermakers won over the Iowa Hawkeyes 24-20 in their home opener.

In the ACC, Rookie the Batdog‘s No. 19 Virginia Tech Hokies were pupset by the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 23-16, falling to 3-2 so far this season.

In the Big 12 in the afternoon Fox game, the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys won a close one over the visiting No. 17 Iowa State Cyclones 24-21 in what could be a preview of the conference championship.

Also in the Big 12 title picture are the No. 20 Kansas State Wildcats, who obliterated the Kansas Jayhawks 55-14 in a battle for Sunflower State supremacy. K-State is now 4-1, 4-0 in 2020, which means they currently lead the league.

In SEC play, the Auburn Tigers defeated the Ole Miss Rebels 35-28, improving to 3-2.

The LSU Tigers trounced the visiting South Carolina Gamecocks 52-24, improving to 2-3.
