The dogs of Michigan State Spartans cornerback Josh Butler took the college football field as the family representatives on Saturday at Spartan Stadium on Senior Day.

Butler is a very devoted dog dad to Roxy and Remi, and it was a nice gesture, since his human family lives very far away.

Dog O’Day learned of this through the college football website Saturday Tradition, which seems to be focused on the Big Ten Conference.

Michigan State beat reporter David Harns, of SB Nation’s site The Only Colors, got a video of the ceremony.

Both of Butler’s parents died while he was in college, so the university allowed his two Boxer/Pit Bull mixes to serve as his family representatives, which seems like a classy move.

Roxy and Remi share a page on both Instagram (@Roxy_Remi_TheDogsTV) and Twitter (@Roxy_RemiTV), where they posted a video of the dance party that followed the game.

Butler is a fifth-year senior from Mesquite, Texas, who has logged 25 tackles, including one and a half for a loss, in nine games in 2019.

For his career, he has totaled 52 tackles (including 35 solo), one sack and three tackles for loss in 25 games.

After the game was over, the scoreboard read Michigan State Spartans 19, Maryland Terrapins 16.

Despite being ranked third in the Big Ten East in the preseason, and being ranked in the AP Top 25 early on, a five-game losing streak (including a 44-10 drubbing from Michigan on national television) derailed the Spartans’ 2019 football season, though they closed it out on a two-game winning streak.

CBS Sports has the Spartans projected to play in the Quick Lane Bowl against the ACC’s Florida State Seminoles, while ESPN also has them in the Quick Lane Bowl, against either Florida State or the North Carolina Tar Heels.
