Jennifer Garner and her dog got into the Halloween spirit early.

Jennifer Garner and her dog Birdie got into the Halloween spirit early over the weekend as they cosplayed as characters from a picture book.

As the Dog O’Day staff are huge fans of reading in general and Jennifer Garner in particular, this is pretty pawesome.

Garner posted pictures and video on her Instagram account over the weekend, and then People Magazine ran a quick story, which is how we found out about it.

They reenacted scenes from Marla Frazee’s new picture book The Farmer and the Monkey, which is one of those picture books that is entirely wordless.

Birdie didn’t exactly seem to love this book – she even fell asleep at one point. But in her defense, that white couch looked like a super comfy reading nook and napping place, so we can’t really blame her.

The white cardboard beard Garner used for the farmer was hilariously appropriate yet simple enough for easy creation and use by others, and Birdie did look very cute in her outfit.

Birdie is a Golden Retriever who has been part of the book club “Books with Birdie” since 2017, so she would probably get along well with our friend PeytonReads.

At the beginning of the pandemic, alongside Amy Adams, Garner started a trend of celebrities reading children’s books aloud under the hashtag #SaveOurStories, which also included Brie Larson, Natalie Portman and Mark Ruffalo, alongside children’s authors reading their own works.

Garner is likely best known for starring in the lead roles of the 2004 romcom13 Going on 30 and the spy TV series Alias, while you also might recognize her face from commercials for Capital One and Neutrogena.

She’s also appeared in main roles in Daredevil (along former husband Ben Affleck) and its spinoff Elektra, the dramas Catch and Release and Juno, and the fantasy The Odd Life of Timothy Green.

Unfortunately, she is not related to The Rockford Files star James Garner, though it seems like she ought to be considering her mix of action hero and self-aware humor.
