Pupper fan clobbered by Braves’ Adam Duvall home run on Saturday
A Mets pupper fan was clobbered by an Atlanta Braves home run from Adam Duvall during Saturday’s baseball action.
During Saturday’s Major League Baseball action at Citi Field, Atlanta Braves left fielder Adam Duvall clobbered a poor innocent New York Mets fan doggo with a home run to right field.
According to an Associated Press report, the pooch in question was Willow McNeil, an Alaskan Malamute/Great Pyrenees mix who belongs to the Mets’ Jeff McNeil, who adopted her after she attended a pregame adoption event at Citi Field last season.
Willow was sitting with her friends Griffey and Kali Conforto in the front row of the right field bleachers. Her fielding skills need some more practice, however.
This would be appalling if the real Willow was pounded by the missile that is a flying baseball, but since it was just cardboard, it becomes merely funny. And then McNeil’s video makes it even better.
The Braves ultimately won over the Mets 5-3 in 10 innings, with the automatic runner at second base coming into play, which was one of the special rules used for the 2020 MLB season. Both teams are now 1-1 on the season, in the middle of the third game of the series taking place as this story is being written.
Willow brought three new frens to Sunday’s game, none the worse for wear from her ordeal the day before.
In other baseball dogs trivia from around the country, the San Diego Padres gave their puppers the best seats in the house behind home plate, which is only fitting as they play in Petco Park. Also, a lonesome dog was plunked in the middle of human fans at Fenway Park, but on the plus side they were sitting on top of the Green Monster in left field.
The Oakland A’s had a cutout of Charlie O the mule in attendance, which makes sense after you stop and think about it for a second, since the live animal was the team mascot from 1965 to 1976. (Could this have been the inspiration for the [very bad] Disney movie Gus?)
