2020 Elvis Pet Parade to be held virtually this year
The 2020 Elvis Pet Parade will be held virtually this year.
The 2020 Elvis Pet Parade will be held virtually this year because of COVID-19.
Held each year in Elvis Presley’s hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi, the Elvis Pet Parade is part of the annual Tupelo Elvis Festival, and features everything from dogs and cats to chickens and ponies.
Tupelo is the county seat of Lee County, a city in northeast Mississippi of about 40,000 people, which was the first city in the United States to receive electricity through the Tennessee Valley Authority, according to the city’s Wikipedia page.
“Transportation for larger pets might have been an issue for previous live Elvis Pet Parades, but virtual participation will allow owners to photograph or video their pets wherever it’s convenient,” Dr.. Laurie Dilworth, owner and medical director of sponsor Dillworth Small Animal Hospital, said in a press release.
This event will be held on Saturday, June 6 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central, and entrants can register at the Tupelo Elvis Festival website, which will take people to the Elvis Pet Parade event page on Facebook, where they can upload their pets’ photos or videos.
A registration fee of $10 is required, which will go to the Tupelo-Lee Humane Society.
There will be several competitions within the large Elvis Pet Parade, which include an Elvis World Tour (pets dressed like Presley and photographed at famous locations throughout the world), Elvis Lookalike Contest (pets dressed like Presley), Pet/Owner Lookalike (matching costumes for human and pet), Best Costume (self-explanatory), Fan Favorite (determined by most Facebook likes) and Judges’ Choice of Best in Show (Best in Show trophy).
For all competitions the winner will receive $100 VISA gift cards, with the exception of Judges’ Choice Best in Show winner, who will receive a $500 VISA gift card.
The winning entries will be announced at noon on Sunday, June 7, on the event page.
