SEAL Team has set up a big story for their dog, Cerberus.
When it comes to TV shows that are dog loving, we rarely (if ever) mention SEAL Team on CBS. And that is definitely an oversight on our part. After all, this series has made it clear from the beginning that the team’s pup, Cerberus, is as much a member of the unit as any of the people.
But, in some of the last new episodes of Season 3 before production shut down, we saw something rather troubling in terms of the future for Cerberus. During one of their missions, Cerberus missed a clue and led the team to a dead end. This is definitely not a good thing.
In the next episode, Cerberus’ handler on SEAL Team, Brock played by Justin Melnick (the pup’s real-life handler), could be seen leading the pup through a number of drills, which lead to an interesting conversation with the team’s leader, Jason played by David Boreanaz. Jason points out that everyone is entitled to having a bad day. And while that may be true, as Brock responds, “He’s my third dog and the best, but you gotta know the signs. It’s on me to know when he’s had enough.”
I don’t know about you, but that conversation seemed very foreboding in terms of Cerberus’ future with SEAL Team. And it seems that we might be right, considering what TV Line has discovered about the Season 4 premiere, which was supposed to be episode 21 of Season 3.
What does this mean for Cerberus’ future on SEAL Team?
They learned from speaking with Boreanaz, that the next episode was supposed to be a very big one for the team’s pup. Apparently the actor directed that 21st episode and opened up about the connection that his character and the pup seemed to have in those episodes where Cerberus was struggling to keep up. David Boreanaz explained that, “the emotional tie between the two of them plays big in .”

Since SEAL Team was renewed for a fourth season, and it seems like whatever work was done on episode 21 of season 3 is getting pushed out, we will likely see the bond between Jason and Cerberus in the season 4 premiere. This means that season 4 will likely be kicking off with not just a big episode for the team pup, but also an emotional one.
While we don’t necessarily know for sure what all this means, we have a pretty good idea. In fact, I would guess that Cerberus is about to be retired from SEAL Team.
It’s actually been quite nice seeing the show give their dog a real storyline as a member of the team, as this is not something that we see often in series like this. In fact, it is rare that a dog gets a fully realized storyline that is so in-depth and actually important to the show’s core story. And there is no doubt that Cerberus’ story is important to the team, as he is there to guide them in dangerous situations, while also leading them into areas where they need more than just eyes, but also an impressive nose.
We can only hope that even if Cerberus is retired from the team, he is still a part of the series and their story. After all, he has been a major player for three seasons, it would be sad to see him exiting the show now.
What do you think the future holds for Cerberus? Do you think his big episode is all about him being retired from the team? Do you think the team will end up getting a new dog? Tell us what you think in the comments.
