The Wile E Coyote movie is still happening, as far as we know: see the Coyote vs Acme movie update.
Though the FanSided Network’s Cartoon week wrapped up over the weekend, it seemed like a good time for a Coyote vs Acme movie update.
The Wile E Coyote-focused movie will be a mix of live action and animation, and will be the third Looney Tunes movie to do so, following Michael Jordan’s1996 Space Jam and 2003’s Looney Tunes: Back in Action, which starred Brendan Fraser (Blast from the Past), Jenna Elfman (The Office) and Steve Martin (Cheaper by the Dozen).
According to Variety in December 2019, Coyote vs Acme will be directed by Dave Green, who is best known for 2016’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, various music videos and being a student of Sam Raimi (Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy).
One of the producers will be Chris McKay, director of The LEGO Batman Movie, who was one of the executive producers on the Scoob!
The upcoming movie is based on a 1990 short story of the same name for The New Yorker by Ian Fraizer, according to Cartoon Brew.
Wile E Coyote and the Road Runner created by Chuck Jones for Warner Bros, and the pair were introduced in the 1949 short Fast and Furry-ous. They appeared in about forty cartoons, all adhering to a very rigid setup: No dialogue, set in the desert of the American Southwest, and the Road Runner could never be eaten or physically harm Wile E Coyote.
Though Wile E Coyote is very clever when it comes to assembling traps to catch the Road Runner, he always falls prey to bad luck.
As of late May 2020 a release date for Coyote vs Acme is unknown, but Space Jam: A New Legacy, starring the Los Angeles Lakers‘ LeBron James, is still on track for a June 2021 release, 25 years after the original.
