When it comes to dogs on TV, both The Simpsons and Family Guy have two very iconic family pups. But which one comes out on top?

There are a lot of cartoon dogs that we know and love, but two of the more iconic animated pups on TV right now might just come from The Simpsons and Family Guy. Over the years, both Santa’s Little Helper and Brian have proven that they are both very good boys, even if the latter is a bit more of a snarky, anthropomorphic character. However, we want to know which one of these pups comes out as one of the best cartoon dogs on TV.

While you might think that Brian from Family Guy would be the leader of the pack considering he can talk and drive a car, this doesn’t necessarily knock Santa’s Little Helper out of the running. Although the Simpsons’ pup may not speak, he has been as much a major part of the family as anyone else. It also helps that he is one of the only animals on the show to not get killed off or forgotten.

As a rescued race dog, Santa’s Little Helper might be our favorite cartoon dog. Not only does he get plenty of storylines, but over the course of 30 seasons, every single member of the Simpsons family has shown that they really do care about this pup.

Brian might be able to hold conversations with everyone, date, and drive a car, but at times, it doesn’t feel like he is as connected to the Griffins as he could be. And what I mean by this is that while Santa’s Little Helper loves his entire family unconditionally, at times it feels like Brian might care about some members of the family, but he doesn’t seem as invested in everyone.

Both Brian and Santa’s Little Helper are very good boys, but it really does feel like The Simpsons might be the winner when it comes to best animated dog. After all, after 30 seasons, Santa’s Little Helper has proven his resilience in a way that Brian can’t come close to (unless of course Family Guy ends up getting more than 30 seasons under its belt).
