Since 1957, Hanna-Barbera has been giving us animated characters we can’t help but love. And Huckleberry Hound is no different!
There are a lot of animated characters on television, and while some are more popular than others, a revival of Hanna-Barbera characters, is helping to bring some of the more obscure names back for a new generation of viewers. One of those characters is none other than the blue hound named Huckleberry Hound.
If you aren’t familiar with this good-natured pup, then you may be in for a treat. The very first time that Huckleberry Hound appeared on TV was 1958. Over the years, he has had his own series, joined forces with some popular characters such as Scooby-Doo and Yogi Bear, and even been in comic books.
And while his long history is enough to make him an important pup in the world of animated classics, that’s not why we think he deserves to be reintroduced to a new era of cartoon viewers. In fact, it has more to do with the fact that he is getting a chance to be a part of a brand new Hanna-Barbera cartoon in the near future.

In 2019, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the upcoming HBO Max streaming service would be launching a new Hanna-Barbera series called Jellystone. And it turns out that Huckleberry Hound is being added to the mix. Considering the animated pup has teamed up with Yogi Bear in the past, it makes perfect sense that he would be included in this new show.
While we may not have a premiere date for Jellystone just yet, at least we know that we are getting some classic cartoon characters when the show does hit our screens. This also gives people plenty of time to learn more about characters such as Huckleberry Hound, the sweet-tempered, relaxed pup with a southern drawl and a penchant for trying to save the day.
Even with his southern charm (and accent), Huckleberry Hound is no ordinary pup. Instead he has been everything from a dogcatcher to a knight, and even a Roman Gladiator. Whether he is saving kittens from other dogs or stopping crows from eating all the corn in the fields, this is one pup with a heart of gold.
And we can’t help but love this blue hound and his desire to do the right thing. In fact, we can’t wait to see what kind of trouble he gets up to in Jellystone, as he is bound to wreak havoc all in the name of trying to do something good for others.
