There’s no better social distancing companion than a four-legged pal! Take advantage of low (or free) pet adoption fees at animal shelters to bring a new friend home.

Animal shelters are not very active these days. With the majority of the world practicing social distancing, most of us are home and not working, this includes animal shelter volunteers. Let’s not forget our animal friends during these tough times! To help get homeless pets to a safe home instead of being alone and afraid at a shelter, many cities around the country are lowering their adoption fees (or getting rid of them altogether).

Typically, adoption fees range anywhere from $40 to $80, which is already a low number because we get an adorable companion and save a life in exchange. But to encourage people to adopt during the COVID-19 outbreak, many shelters are offering low or FREE adoptions.

When the government began to shut down establishments such as movie theaters and restaurants, animal shelters were included. This isn’t good news for anyone, but it’s especially awful for animals.

In the city of Dallas, Texas, for example, adoption fees are now $45 for any dog or pup and $15 for cats. The Jacksonville Humane Society in Florida is waiving adoption fees altogether this week only. And in Michigan, adoption fees are reportedly just $25.

Having a new pet around won’t only make us all feel happier, but it’ll help us stay active and we won’t feel as alone. You can’t deny that a doggie friend never fails to put a smile on your face!

Have you noticed any reductions at your local shelter? Give us a shout so we can share with others! What you can also do to help is foster a pup while the outbreak of COVID-19 get under control.
