WeatherTech Scout Super Bowl LIV ad pays it forward in thankfulness.

In a bit of an unusual marketing move, the WeatherTech Scout Super Bowl LIV ad wasn’t really about the company of WeatherTech, which makes car and truck accessories.

Titled “Lucky Dog,” it wasn’t even about their PetComfort line of pet accessories, either, like the ad from last year (which was one of our favorites here at Dog O’Day).

Taking a page out of The Art of Racing in the Rain, company mascot Scout, a Golden Retriever belonging to the company’s founder Dave MacNeil, narrated the spot, which aired just before halftime, in first person.

Scout talked about his battle with a tumor on his heart, and the valiant efforts of the team at Wisconsin Vet Med who were able to save him in the face of almost impossible odds.

The end of the spot urged audiences to support veterinary medicine by going to WeatherTech.com/donate.

It was also self-aware, with Scout’s realizing how cool it is to be in a Super Bowl commercial in the first place, much less two years in a row. And being a dog, all sticks are really amazing, too, right?

(Enzo would definitely agree with all that.)

We loved this ad, and think it will figure highly in our rankings of doggy Super Bowl 54 commercials.

“There he was in this little room, standing in the corner… and he’s wagging his tail at me. I’m like, ‘I’m not putting that dog down. There’s just absolutely no way,'” McNeil is quoted by NBC News.

Scout is a senior dog, about eight years old, which equals to roughly mid-fifties in dog years.

WeatherTech is very active in sports car racing, being the title sponsor of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in California, the title sponsor of the WeatherTech Sports Car Championship, and the primary sponsor of the No. 63 Ferrari that is partially driven by Cooper MacNeil, son of Dave.
