Chris Hemsworth is stepping up to the plate to help fight the devastating fires that are destroying Australia. Not only is he making a donation of $1 million, but he is asking for help too.

Australia is in the midst of a crisis. With bushfires devastating the country, millions of animals are dying and people are losing everything. And one person looking to help is Chris Hemsworth.

Considering Hemsworth is a spokesperson for tourism in Australia, it makes sense that he would be making a statement about the devastating fires. And the fact that he is a native of the country, certainly helps as well.

With devastating pictures and videos of the many animals caught in the fire, we here at Dog O’Day are eager to share any positive news that we can. And knowing that someone like Chris Hemsworth is stepping up to the plate to make a difference is definitely the kind of positive news we want to share.

According to CNN, Hemsworth has not only put out a call for donations, but he is kicking things off with $1 million of his own money. On Instagram, the actor shared a video in which he discusses the fact that Australia is in the “thick of it” with these bushfires, while asking for the support of anyone who can help.

He shared links to places that will use the money in the best ways possible, including offering support to the firefighters working to control the spread of the fires. In his post he says, “Like you, I want to support the fight against the bushfires here in Australia. My family and I are contributing a million dollars. Hopefully you guys can chip in too.”

More from Dog of the Day

While bushfires in Australia happen every year, this season has been one of the worst the country has seen. And considering the summer there has only just begun, it is likely to get worse before it gets better. Current estimates have 20 people having been killed by these fires and close to half a billion animals. This is a devastating loss in so many ways, and as animal lovers it breaks our hearts to see such devastation.

Chris Hemsworth and his family are not the only celebrities who have stepped up to try to make a difference in Australia. Other celebs who have offered up donations include Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman, Pink, and Kylie Minogue.
