Senior dogs and other pets are getting all the love in a new PSA starring comedy legends such as Bob Newhart and Carol Burnett.

We all know that getting older can be hard. There are new aches and pains, but there are also those memories and new experiences. But for senior dogs, getting older isn’t always a positive experience.

In fact, thanks to a new PSA starring people like Bob Newhart, Lily Tomlin, and Carol Burnett, we are being reminded that for some senior dogs, getting older is more of a death sentence than anything else.

According to People Magazine, the new PSA for the Grey Muzzle Organization is hoping to change people’s opinion of older dogs. As part of the PSA, stars like Tomlin and Newhart are sharing what it is like to get old, discussing their own lives as a senior.

At one point Bob Newhart says, “I’m 90, but I still feel like I am 30 … except when I try to run.” You might be wondering what the point of all of this is. Basically these older stars want you to know that getting older is “not a death sentence.” But while we may know this when it comes to humans, it seems like we forget that when it comes to animals.

Speaking about senior dogs and their reality, Carol Burnett explained, “Many older dogs are surrendered to shelters because their owners have passed away or couldn’t afford their care.” And that ends up being the end of their story. These dogs are left behind and forgotten. They are passed over for puppies and younger dogs.

Although senior dogs can still have a lot of life left in them, they are abandoned in shelters and passed over. A sad reality that even many dog lovers seem to forget or ignore.

However, with the help of this PSA, hopefully more people will consider adopting a senior dog from the shelter. The goal of the Grey Muzzle Organization is to help provide support and funding to more shelters and rescues to help older dogs enjoy their later years, while also hopefully finding them a forever home where they can live out their final years in the way they deserve.
