Macy’s officially kicked off the holiday season with their annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, which included plenty of dog balloons.
Every year, Macy’s kicks off the holiday season with their iconic Thanksgiving Day Parade featuring marching bands, big balloons, and numerous floats. There are performances along the route, and of course at the front of the Macy’s store on 34th Street, audiences usually get spectacular shows.
In 2019, wind nearly grounded the balloons that make the Macy’s parade such an extravagant affair, but city officials let the balloons fly, just a bit closer to the ground than usual. With the show still able to go on, fans of the annual tradition got the chance to watch as some of our favorite characters celebrated the official start of the holidays.
And for us here at Dog O’Day, the parade was a chance to watch as some of our favorite dogs got the spotlight. In fact, we would have to say that there was a lot of dog love this year, as not only did we see Astronaut Snoopy take flight, but there were a few different pups represented on floats and balloons.
Paw Patrol got some love in the parade, as one of their pups, Chase, got his own balloon. If you are unfamiliar with Paw Patrol, it is an adorable kids show featuring some very heroic pups, including a fire dog named Marshall, and Chase the police pup.
Blue from Blue’s Clues may not have been in balloon form, but she definitely had an awesome float of her own. And with the show getting the reboot treatment, it makes sense that Blue would be represented at this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
It wouldn’t be the holidays without Max from the Grinch, and our favorite little pup was definitely on display with his master this year. The Grinch and Max balloon was certainly a favorite, as we love when Max gets all the love. And of course, we wouldn’t mind giving the Grinch a hug or two as well. Actually, we are all for giving both of them a lot of love, as Max and the Grinch are truly iconic holiday characters.
The Grinch and Max might have been my favorite balloon of the whole parade, but that might have something to do with just how much I love Max. He really is the best boy, and the way he takes care of the Grinch always makes him a little scene-stealer. Of course, the fact that he got an adorable makeover in the newest Grinch movie in 2018, certainly helps to add to his cuteness factor and overall appeal.
This year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade had something for everyone once again, and considering this is the 93rd time they have done this, we are not surprised in the least. We love getting to see all of the awesome balloons and floats, especially knowing how many people it takes to make this parade happen.
We are so glad that wind didn’t stop the balloons from flying, and of course we love that dogs were shown so much love. (And in the honorable mention category for balloons we loved, we have to give some love to the Green Eggs and Ham balloon featuring Sam and Guy in the hammobile… after all, they kind of remind us of pups too.)
