Hunter Hayes opens up about his two rescue dogs in new Sexiest Man Alive issue for People
Hunter Hayes might be part of the Sexiest Man Alive issue for People Magazine, but the country singer is putting the focus on his rescue dogs.
We all know about People’s Sexiest Man Alive issue. It is one of the more talked about issues of the magazine every year, and it usually features a wide variety of men, from all walks of life and areas of business and entertainment. And this year, one of the men included is country singer Hunter Hayes.
As part of his feature in the 2019 Sexiest Man Alive issue, Hayes had a chance to open up about his rescue dogs. And it seems that at least one of these pups is where he “strives to be,” and we are here for this energy.
According to his interview with People, the Whippet-Beagle mix and Greyhound are the two dogs he has always wanted to have. The retired Greyhound, Cole, and the Whippet-Beagle, Ella, are perfect for him because they each give him what he needs. Hunter Hayes explained that when he gets upset or frustrated, Cole will leave the room to let him “figure it out,” while Ella clamors for his attention and tries to get his mind off his problems.
As a retired racing dog, Cole is very much able to run with the best of them, but Hayes says he is also a lazy pup when he wants to be. In fact, the country singer shared that when you think about it, Cole is a retired athlete, which means, “he’s just living life.”
Hunter Hayes believes that the retired Greyhound is very much “an old man.” He is not necessarily an affectionate pup, instead you have to earn it. The singer even pointed out that, “Cole is where I strive to be.” It is this personality that makes Cole the perfect travel companion when Hayes is on the road. However, Ella is not so much a travel companion. Instead, she prefers to stay home and enjoy her yard.

While Cole may not be the most affectionate pup, it seems that Ella was once the same way. The country singer says that when he first brought her home in 2017, “she wanted really nothing to do with people in general.” In fact, it took six hours just to get the pup to come into his house in Nashville.
Luckily, he already had Cole at the time, and after a while, Ella started following the other dog around, before finally following him into the house. Now, two years later, she has actually become Hayes’ shadow when he is home.
And after time on the road, the one thing that Hunter Hayes appreciates the most is getting the chance to be home with his dogs. The singer shared that his perfect day is all about watching Netflix with his pups. “My favorite thing to do is to sit in my little corner of the couch, left corner, and I have both of them on the couch with me and it’s the best.”
