Dog lovers heading to college may not have to go alone for much longer, as La Salle University is introducing a dog friendly residence hall.

In a first for La Salle University, the school will allow students to bring pre-approved pets with them on campus. And we aren’t talking about service dogs or emotional support animals. Instead, the school is introducing a dog friendly residence hall.

It turns out that La Salle University is looking to be a very dog friendly school and that includes having a residence hall that allows dogs under 30 pounds. This is exciting news for dog lovers heading to school, as it will certainly help with things like stress and homesickness.

There are some rules that must be followed in order to bring a dog to the school, and of course beyond the rules, there are additional fees associated with having your pup live with you on campus.

Much like when you rent an apartment, there will be a fee and application process for bringing your dog with you to the residence hall. According to CBS Philly, students who want to bring their pup with them to school will need to make sure that they have all the necessary licenses and vaccinations. Pups must also be neutered or spayed, as is appropriate for their age. And since the school is in Philadelphia, the dogs must also follow the Dog Ordinances of the city and have current identification tags.

On the La Salle University website, they explain that this is something specifically for Upperclassmen who want to live in St. George Hall. That being said, only one dog will be allowed per residence, which means if you have a roommate, only one of you can bring your pup with you.

The dog friendly residence hall features a lounge area that your pup can enjoy alongside of you, plus there is a dog washing station, and even a dog run to help them get their exercise. Basically everything you need to give your pup a good life is at your disposal on campus.

As dog lovers, we love the fact that La Salle University is offering a dog friendly residence hall that is for more than just service animals. This is the kind of experience that would have made college so much more enriching and perhaps even a little more relaxed.

Hopefully this works out well for La Salle University and the students. And if it does, we are holding out hope that more schools decide to offer residences that allow dogs.
