Houston Astros infielder Alex Bregman and his girlfriend have adopted a new puppy.

Alex Bregman, third baseman/shortstop for the Houston Astros, and his girlfriend Regan Howard have adopted a new puppy, as announced via a post on Howard’s Instagram.

Dog O’Day learned of this news through Houston’s ABC 13.

Bregman was a member of the 2017 World Series championship team and earned MVP honors at the 2018 MLB All-Star Game.

“He’s a mama’s boy,” Bregman commented.

This pupper looks to be a Golden Retriever, though since baby Goldens look very similar to yellow Labs, we aren’t sure on this. There is no word on what his name might be.

ABC 13 reports that many of the Astros are dog lovers – shortstop Carlos Correa and his fiancee Daniella Rodriguez have two dogs named after Guardians of the Galaxy Rocket and Groot, outfielder Jake Marisnick and girlfriend Brittany Perry have a pair of Goldens.

Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Jake Verlander and his supermodel wife Kate Upton have a doggo named Harley, and pitcher Lance McCullers Jr and his wife Kara have two dogs and are actively involved in Houston-area animal rescue organizations.

Verlander and McCullers even have started organizations that cater to animal welfare, ADOPT.RESCUE.HEAL (part of the Wins for Warriors Foundation) and the Lance McCullers Jr Foundation, respectively.

The Astros are currently leading the American League West Division with a record of 81-46 and a winning percentage of .643 with roughly a month to go in the regular season, eight games over Finn the Batdog’s Oakland A’s.

We hope that Puppy Bregman might be able to visit spring training one day, or maybe get to help a team like Buddy in Seventh Inning Fetch or performing in front of a stadium full of fans like Jake the Diamond Dog, Rookie the Batdog or Brooks do on a routine basis.
