ESPN Dog Day will celebrate the canine side of sports on Saturday, August 24 with an afternoon full of 12/10 good content.

ESPN has teamed up with the American Kennel Club for ESPN Dog Day on Saturday, August 24 with a variety of canine sports content.

Saturday is close to National Dog Day on Monday, August 26, and a slack time just before college football season starts, so it’s a good time for dogs to take over.

The content begins on the ESPN App at 11:30 am ET with the ESPN Dog Day Preshow, hosted by broadcaster Anita Marks with color commentary by AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo and guest commentary by Matt Nelson of WeRateDogs and Thoughts of Dog.

It will feature warm-up displays of agility, dock diving and flyball, and an AKC Meet the Breeds segment.

Much of the content will air on ESPN2, and the host of the day will be Katie Nolan.

ESPN Dog Day Championship Pup begins at noon ET on ESPN2, as dogs compete in agility, dock diving and flyball, with play-by-play from Marks and commentary by DiNardo and Nelson. There will be an #SCTop10 highlights segment and a bloopers segment, narrated by SportsCenter anchor Neil Everett.

The fun continues with Dog Tales at at 1 p.m. ET, a recut special containing four stories from E:60 and SportsCenter SC Featured, hosted by Tom Rinaldi.

  • These stories are “Arthur,” about a group of Swedish adventure racers and an injured dog they found in the Amazon jungle. This will be a movie starring Mark Wahlberg at some point in the future.
  • “Fenway’s Best Friend,” about the groundskeeper and his bond with his dog Drago.
  • “Owen + Haatchi,” about a boy, his dog and their remarkable winning streak
  • and “A Warrior’s Way,” following the 2017 Warrior Games, tracking double amputee Christy Gardner and her Golden Retriever service dog Moxie.

At 2 p.m. ET is a special dog edition of the ESPN Plus series Always Late with Katie Nolan.

A special on flyball, titled Flyball: The Ultimate Dog Relay, will air at 2:30 p.m. ET, and then at 3 p.m. ET a tape-delayed broadcast of the first-ever Agility Premier Cup (from April) will be shown.

Air Bud will be shown at 4 p.m. ET, which ties in well with the premiere of Disney Channel’s new series Pup Academy.

From 6 p.m. ET to 10 p.m. ET, the first four hours of ESPN Dog Days programming slate will be repeated on ESPNEWS, and then starting at 10 p.m. ET ESPNEWS will be airing highlights from the 2004-05 editions of the Great Outdoors Games, a short-lived competitor of the Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge.
