Who claimed titles at the first-ever AKC Agility Premier Cup?

A select group of dogs were chosen to compete to become the first winners of the AKC Agility Premier Cup on Thursday, April 25.

The competition was held in New York City on Long Island in the Nassau Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum, former home of the NHL’s New York Islanders, in conjunction with the Longines Masters of New York, a prestigious show-jumping event in the horse world.

A field of 60 dogs taken from the 2018 AKC National Agility Championship, 2018 AKC Agility Invitational, 2019 Masters Agility Championship winners and select members of the World Agility Team and European Open Team were invited.

8 inch

The 8 inch class was captured by Wren the Papillon and Betsey Lynch with a clean run of 44.51 seconds, which beat out Logan the All American Dog (mixed breed) with a 50.68. Running with faults were Bexar the Havanese, Pink the Papillon, Bing the Toy Fox Terrier and Lark the Papillon.

12 inch

Pixel the Miniature American Shepherd and Ann Sheffield claimed the 12 inch division with a clean run of 38.06 seconds, which beat out the Poodle pairing of Bliss (38.85) and Pre (40.45) and  Diamond the Shih Tzu (50.40). Running with faults were Trek the Shetland Sheepdog and Valkyrie the Bedlington Terrier.

16 inch

Pink the Border Collie and Jenn Crank took the 16 inch class with a clean run of 36.64 seconds, topping Skoal the Australian Cattle Dog at 47.66 seconds. Running with faults were Swift the Shetland Sheepdog, Porter the Rat Terrier, Stripe the Shetland Sheepdog and Pixel the Manchester Terrier.

20 inch

In the 20 inch class, Graphite the Border Collie and Paulena Simpson ran a clean run in 40.22, which is faster than the other clean run of 47.75 from Holster the Australian Shepherd. Running with faults were Fallon and Fame the Border Collies, Decoy the Labrador and Twix the Rottweiler.

24 inch

With a 55.89, Harley the All American Dog and Erin Stumler were the only pairing to make a clean run in the 24 inch class, defeating Luna the Belgian Malinois and a pack of Border Collies – Frodo, Kaboom, Cru and Echo, who finished third through sixth.
