Clear the Shelters Day 2019 leads to adoption drives across the country
Across the country, Clear the Shelters Day saw people coming out in droves to help rescue animals in need of adoption from cities like NYC and Chicago.
While Clear the Shelters Day might officially take place on August 17, the entire weekend was dedicated to helping animals in shelters find their forever homes. And across the country, adoption drives were the name of the game, with people coming out in droves in cities such as New York, Chicago, and Dallas.
At many of the rescues that took part in Clear the Shelters Day, adoption fees were waived in order to facilitate as many adoptions as possible. And in many cases, this helped countless animals find their new pet parents.
According to Spectrum News NY 1, in New York City, hundreds of people came out to three shelters across the city in order to help clear the shelters. And with adoption fees being waived, there were a number of animals that found new homes.
In the North Texas area of Dallas and Fort Worth, a whopping 7,400 animals found their forever homes, with four different shelters actually being cleared by the early evening, according to NBC 5. And while the DFW Metroplex was clearly ready and willing to help give those shelter animals new homes, they were not alone. In fact, it seems that across the country, more than 89,000 animals were adopted on Clear the Shelters Day.
Every day, there are new animals entering shelters and rescues, looking for a home and someone to love them. And thanks to national recognition for days like this, it makes it easier to connect these animals with people willing to give them a second chance at happily ever after.
