Following a Facebook event that would have participants raiding Area 51 went viral, one Oklahoma animal shelter thinks you should raid them instead.

Over the last few weeks a Facebook event called “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us,” has gone viral with memes and even security concerns dominating the news and social media. However, one animal shelter is utilizing this viral moment to their advantage.

According to ABC affiliate KAKE, it seems that the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter has put out a call to all those people interested in raiding Area 51. Instead of heading to Nevada and the real site of Area 51 (which could be dangerous and get you into some serious trouble), why not head to the animal shelter where furry friends waiting for their forever homes are already decked out in tinfoil hats.

On the animal shelter’s website, they reveal that as of July 19 there are 156 dogs, 24 cats, 2 pigs, and a hamster looking for new homes. And in a post shared to Facebook, the shelter points out that all of these animals would be more than happy to protect you from any aliens lurking around Area 51. The post makes it clear that, “Adoption isn’t that far out of this world.”

Considering the likelihood of actually being able to raid Area 51 is next to nothing, we like the idea of raiding an animal shelter instead. And the fact that some of these furry critters are already prepared for an alien invasion with their tinfoil hats makes this the perfect time to stop in and bring home a new fur baby.

Just think if even half of the 1.7 million people who said they were going to the raid Area 51 event decided to hit up a local animal shelter, there would be so many empty shelters in this country. Of course, we think the animals over at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter definitely deserve to be raided this weekend as they are the ones who pointed out what a great idea it would be to raid them first.

At the very least, check out the post on Facebook and take a look at the adorable pup rocking their tinfoil hat. That face alone should be enough to convince you that now is the time to check out the shelter near you for a new fur baby.

We love the idea of a raid the shelter event over the raid Area 51 outing. After all, a lot more good can come of hitting up an animal shelter than heading to a federally protected Air Force facility.
