The Dogs of Twitter up north celebrated 2019 Canada Day weekend with a variety of fun activities.

2019 Canada Day weekend was last weekend (the official holiday was Monday, July 1) and the dogs of Twitter celebrated very appropriately.

Canada Day is roughly equivalent to the Fourth of July, just with a lot less terrifying fireworks to worry about.

It’s more of a chill, relaxed holiday – being Americans, we don’t have many of those, except for our Thanksgiving (Canadian Thanksgiving looks pretty great, too, though).

Here’s how some of the very good boys and girls of the Twittersphere spent their holiday.

Canadian Penny, a rescue dog adopted several years ago from a shelter in Toronto, wore her special maple leaf-bedecked sweater to mark the occasion on the big day. She also got ready by looking at Christmas lights and wearing a pretty bandanna.

She also got a specialty order of cookies and didn’t have to share any (though as a very friendly pup, she probably would have if you asked nicely).

Bunsen the Science Dog, a Bernese Mountain Dog in Alberta, went hiking with his family in the Canadian Rockies near the Montana border.

They also met a grouchy mama bear, went to a parade, and Bunsen made a new friend in a tiny Dachshund who looks like Penny’s friend Lena.

It sounded like it was a fantastic trip for everyone.

Lena is an American dog, but with friends in Canada, she figured she ought to celebrate, too. But not having a red T-shirt in her extensive collection (she’s a model), she had to impawvise a little.

Coconut Rice Bear the Samoyed lives near San Francisco now, but she was born in Ontario, and she thought Canada Day was a good time to have some tasty treats.

Many sports-loving dogs also watched the Canadian Football League games on TV last weekend.

The Calgary Stampeders topped the BC Lions 36-32 at the last minute, while the Hamilton Tiger-Cats crushed the Montreal Alouettes by a 41-10 margin. The Saskatchewan Roughriders didn’t have much trouble dispatching the Toronto Argonauts, either, winning 32-7. Finally, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers won a close one over the Edmonton Eskimos 28-21. The Ottawa Redblacks were off.

Two of Wesley’s sisters live in Canada, which means we’re partial to things up north when it comes to Olympics and things. After all, it’s the country that produced Jeopardy‘s Alex Trebek, Avril Lavigne and Keanu Reeves.

Next. Jake Gyllenhaal gave an interview with puppies. dark

Have a great holiday weekend, everyone, whether it be Canada Day or the Fourth of July.
