Summertime means treats. And so why shouldn’t dog ice cream exist?

Dogs aren’t really supposed to eat ice cream – there’s too much sugar and preservatives and who knows what all else. But what if dog ice cream existed?

Well, actually, it does, and it’s coming soon to an Aldi near you.

According to Delish, a special type of ice cream specifically made for dogs, Heart to Tail, will be hitting the Aldi freezers on Wednesday, June 26.

There will be four single-serving (three and a half ounce) tubs in a package, two each of Original and Cheese and Bac’n.

Original will presumably be like a basic dog biscuit, which do not taste as good as they smell like they ought to. (Haven’t we all tried them once?)

Cheese and Bac’n sounds really nasty as an ice cream flavor, but then we’re humans, not dogs. It could work, it would just be like a different culture’s snack preferences.

The packages are expected to cost around $3, and it will be a product available only for a limited time, with an unknown time before it gets p ulled from the freezers.

The ice cream is gluten free and contains no artificial ingredients.

While Aldi is owned by the same people as Trader Joe’s (there’s essentially a Carl’s Jr/Hardee’s thing going on), it is unclear whether Trader Joe’s will sell the Heart to Tail dog ice cream as well.

Given doggy food trucks already exist, it shouldn’t be that surprising that dog ice cream is a thing. For more human food news, check out our friends at FoodSided and Guilty Eats.
