Hockey-loving hounds cheered on their favorite teams in the first round of the 2019 NHL playoffs.

The 2019 NHL playoffs recently ended, and the hockey hounds among the dogs of Instagram were cheering on their favorite teams.

First, the Eastern Conference results –

After winning a league-best 62 games in the regular season, the Tampa Bay Lightning were stunned by the Columbus Blue Jackets, who swept the Bolts in four games.

Rookie’s lucky sweater is a little too big, but, hey, if it works…

The Boston Bruins rallied from behind to topple one of their Original Six rivals as they defeated Canada’s Team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, four games to three.

Jack was patiently waiting for the puck drop each and every game.

Boston will now face Columbus in the second round.

The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals four games to three, something Moose McCreery (and his parents) were super happy about.

The New York Islanders swept the Pittsburgh Penguins four games to none, which had to make team dog Radar pretty happy.

Matches was also pretty pleased with the result.

The Isles will reckon with the approach of the Canes in the second round.

Now, the Western Conference results –

The Dallas Stars took out the Nashville Predators four games to two, to the surprise of many.

Preds team dog Smash didn’t take too kindly to the loss, but being a classy canine, still gave his end-of-the-season remarks to the media.

The St Louis Blues grounded the Winnipeg Jets in six games.

Blues team dog Barclay was thrilled by the win. (His strategy of hanging onto the puck is working.)

Dallas will face St Louis in the second round.

The Colorado Avalanche managed to extinguish the Calgary Flames in five games.

Belle the Pomeranian will be sure to wear her lucky jersey for the rest of the playoffs, too.

Finally, n a rematch of a first round matchup from last season, the San Jose Sharks had to take it to Game 7 – and then into overtime – in order to knock off last season’s Cinderellas, the Stanley Cup runners-up Vegas Golden Knights.

This made Knights superfan Bark-Andre Furry very unhappy, but as a wise old Jack Russell he knows that another season will start soon. And in the meantime there’s minor league baseball to keep up with, particularly the Las Vegas Aviators and his friend Rookie’s Trenton Thunder.

San Jose will play Colorado in the second round.

Good luck to the teams still in the hunt during the 2019 NHL playoffs! The hockey fans of the Dog O’Day staff would like to see the Blues play either the Hurricanes or Islanders for the Stanley Cup, since Nashville and Vegas were eliminated.
