Sam Rockwell gifted custom cufflinks for the Oscars as a tribute to his dog Sadie

While dogs may not have been the star of the 2019 Oscars, that doesn’t mean there weren’t some special dog moments, with one coming thanks to Sam Rockwell.

The Oscars have come and gone, and while there were plenty of special moments and highlights from the ceremony, dogs did not have a good night in 2019. The only dog-centric movie nominated, Isle of Dogs, did not win anything, and there really weren’t any other dog loving movies nominated. But thanks to Sam Rockwell, we have a dog loving highlight to appreciate.

Rockwell was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Vice, and while he may not have won this year, he did get a very special gift in honor of the nomination. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor’s stylist, Michael Fisher, gifted him with a pair of custom engraved cufflinks from David Yurman.

Last year, when Sam Rockwell was nominated for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Fisher gifted him with custom cufflinks featuring the actor’s long time partner, Leslie Bibb’s, name. And when he decided to do the same thing again this year, he took inspiration from the couple’s beloved dog, Sadie.

In collaboration with David Yurman, Michael Fisher decided that the best way to honor Rockwell’s nomination, was to design cufflinks with Sadie’s name on one of the cufflinks, while the other featured an image of the pup in line art. Fisher explained that when he decided that the best way to create a keepsake for the actor was to pay tribute to his beloved dog, he made up some sketches of Sadie based on an Instagram post that Bibb had shared.

The cufflinks were given to Sam Rockwell prior to his appearance on the red carpet, so he was able to show them off before the ceremony even began. And while Sadie was apparently at the Oscars somewhere (or at least in town for the Oscars), the pup did not make an appearance. Considering Sadie goes everywhere with Rockwell, according to Fisher, we would not have been surprised if the dog had decided to make a red carpet appearance.

While Rockwell did not win the Best Supporting Actor category this year, he now has special cufflinks that allow him to pay tribute to his dog whenever he has to put on a tux. Moving forward, he can look at them as a commemoration of both his nomination, and of course his love for his canine companion.

As dog lovers, we think it is so amazing that Rockwell’s stylist decided to take inspiration from the actor’s pup when coming up with a small keepsake for him in honor of the Oscars. We think these are the kind of gifts that are so much more than just pieces of jewelry, they are a real tribute to the person wearing them.
