Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is officially the royal patron for the animal charity Mayhew. And during her first official visit as patron, the rescue dogs stole the show (and maybe even her heart).

On January 16, Meghan Markle visited with one of her new patronages, the Mayhew animal charity. And while the focus is clearly on the good works that the organization does, we can’t help but notice how the rescue pups not only stole the show, but charmed the Duchess of Sussex as well.

As a self-professed animal lover, the Duchess has not only long been a supporter of charities that help animals, but she herself is the owner of rescue dogs. And during her visit to Mayhew, it was clear that Meghan Markle truly loves working with charity (and of course seeing all the pups).

As People Magazine reports, the purpose of the visit was for the Duchess to meet “with staff, volunteers and beneficiaries to hear more about the organization’s initiatives.” While there, she got to see some of the projects that Mayhew is currently working on, as well as interact with people being helped by the program.

Among the projects that Mayhew works on are animal therapy visits, international support for dogs, which includes giving rabies shots to pups in other countries, and even providing help to homeless people with pups. During her tour of the charity, Meghan Markle got to meet some of the people being helped by the charity, as well as a number of rescue dogs, both adopted and still available for adoption.

On Twitter, Mayhew shared a number of tweets with pictures and even a video or two from the Duchess’ visit. Along with the images, the charity explained some of what the Duchess witnessed, who she met, and what projects they have going on at this time.

And while we are all for the charity work of Mayhew, as well as the Duchess of Sussex’s patronage, we can’t help but be captivated by the pups themselves, and Meghan Markle’s reaction to them. From getting down to their level to pet and chat with the pups, to talking with some of the owners of the rescue dogs, this visit to Mayhew was definitely one of the Duchess’ most adorable outings yet.

At the Mayhew, Meghan Markle met a pup named Roobarb, who got a pat on the head for being a good dog. A Jack Russell Terrier named Minnie also got some love from the Duchess, as she got down towards eye level for some pets. There are even some cute pictures of the Duchess cuddling one of the pups as she talked to members of the charity.

While this is not her first visit to Mayhew, now that she is the charity’s royal patron, we expect to see more visits by the Duchess in the future. Of course, they may end up happening after she gives birth, but we are certainly looking forward to seeing how Meghan Markle works with the charity moving forward, and if any more rescue pups find their way home with her. We love seeing celebrities and other public figures working with charity, and of course, as dog lovers, animal charities and rescues are close to our hearts.
