Dog names in 2018 were all about the humans

In 2018, dog names saw a major shift away from the traditional options. Instead, it was all about giving our pups names that are much more human.

Move over Spot and Sparky, it’s time for Max, Bella, and Charlie to take the crowns for top dog names in 2018. That’s right, dog owners are moving away from standard dog names and going with more human options, at least that is what Rover has to say in their yearly list of top names for pups.

As dog owners, we often treat our pups like family. They are our children and that means when it comes to the names we choose, it seems that many people are increasingly turning to names that are very human. And if you look at the list of top dog names for 2018, it looks like a who’s who of our neighbors and coworkers.

With how strong many of our bonds are with our dogs, it probably comes as no surprise to see dog names going to the humans (get it?). And while there are still plenty of creative pet names out there, many of the top names, both male and female, are courtesy of the baby books we use to name our human children.

For male dogs, some of the top names include:

  • Max (We are going to credit Max from The Grinch for this, even if we are wrong.)
  • Charlie
  • Jack (We would not be surprised if This Is Us is to blame for this one.)
  • Tucker
  • Oliver

For female dogs, some of the top names include:

  • Bella (Twilight might be to blame for this one, even after all these years.)
  • Lucy
  • Daisy
  • Maggie
  • Stella

Honestly, we love some of these names enough that we would have no problem gifting a pup with any one of these monikers. Of course, with that being said, we already have a dog named Troy at home, so it is clear that we are already on board with the idea of using human names on pups.
