When it comes to finding their forever homes, some shelter dogs seem to be forgotten. But, in St. Louis, they are trying to change that by pairing dogs with dancers.
Although there are always animals in shelters looking to be adopted year round, during the holidays it seems to be something that is forgotten as people look for the perfect puppy to give as a gift. However, shelter dogs are always ready for their new forever homes.
And in St. Louis, a partnership between a photography studio and a local shelter has offered the world a reminder that these dogs need love too. Thanks to The Dancers and Dogs Performance Photography group, ballet and shelter dogs have been united for a series of photos that are both inspiring and beautiful.
According to People Magazine, the photogenic pups come from the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, and the ballet dancers are part of The St. Louis Ballet’s Nutcracker production. Together, these dancers and dogs unite for shots that are sweet, graceful, and will make you want to run to the shelter and bring one (or all) of these pooches home for yourself.
This is not the first time that ballet dancers and shelter dogs have been paired up for photo shoots either, as Dancers and Dogs have a number of photos on their Instagram that we can enjoy. But this time it seems the rescue is at capacity and is hoping these photos act as a reminder that there are plenty of pups looking for a new home this season.
Through the series of photos we were all introduced to 10 dogs, from puppies to older dogs, all looking to find new homes this holiday season. And whether it is the dancers who showed off their grace and talent, or the pups who played along with what was happening, every picture brought a smile to our face.
No matter which photo was your favorite, each one brought the magic of the Nutcracker to the shelter, giving each of these pups a chance to shine in the spotlight.
Hopefully photo shoots like this one will not only find these dogs new homes, but also remind people there are plenty of available animals at their own local shelters. There are plenty of ways we can help these pups, from donating to rescues, to actually bringing home a shelter animal. Whatever you do, these animals will be thankful that you thought of them in their time of need.
What do you think of this series of photos? Do you think this is something more shelters and photographers should do to bring attention to rescues? Tell us what you think in the comments.
