For sporty pups, this holiday weekend was made even better by there being games of every description.

While many pups enjoyed the good food and mingled anxiety/excitement of strangers visiting on Thanksgiving, the holiday weekend made made even greater for sports-loving dogs.

On Thanksgiving Day itself was the National Dog Show, though I’m not sure if that can be classified as a sport. It’s certainly a competition, of course.

There were also three games of pro football that went on in the background, unless you happened to be a fan of one of the teams involved.

This Greyhound decided that, being a Detroit Lions fan, a nap was a much better way to spend the afternoon.

It made for a good girls night, according to this trio of doggos.

In college basketball, the No. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs defeated the No. 1 Duke Blue Devils to win the Maui Invitational, possibly the most well-known of the early-season tournaments. For more college basketball news, visit the folks at Busting Brackets.

Soccer saw another weekend of Premiere League action in England, and stateside the Major League Soccer playoffs.  These dudes were pulling for Atlanta United.

On Saturday, the college football focus was on Rivalry Week, of which the highlight was Reveille the Collie’s Texas A&M Aggies winning in SEVEN OVERTIMES over the LSU Tigers by a 74-72 score.

Hockey dogs watched the Thanksgiving Showdown between the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers on Black Friday in a nationally-televised matchup, but all puck pups continued to cheer on their favorite team, as was the case with this Manitoba doggo, who is a Winnipeg Jets fan.

North of the border, the Calgary Stampeders held off the Ottawa Redblacks on Sunday to win the Grey Cup, the Canadian Football League’s equivalent to the Super Bowl.
